Licensing Alternatives

Two versions of iteraplan are available: the open source Community Edition and the commercial Enterprise Edition. Both have a common source code base and are continually developed. Which edition is right for you depends on your requirements and intended usage - see below for their major differences.

iteraplan Community Edition

iteraplan Community Edition uses the AGPLv3 open source license. The AGPLv3 open source license allows you to use the Community Edition at no charge under the condition that if you use iteraplan code in an application that you distribute, the complete source code for your application must be available and freely redistributable under reasonable conditions. With this license, you can download, inspect, develop and test iteraplan code. This means that the Community Edition can be freely used for many purposes. There is an exception if you change or add to the code and you use the software for other applications. In this case, the code (usage or change) must be published under open source licence as well, even if the changes are not distributed but are used as the basis for an Internet or network-based service.

iteraplan Enterprise Edition

iteraplan Enterprise Edition is available under a free software license, but requires a support agreement and an initial consulting service provided by iteratec. iteraplan Enterprise Edition includes additional functionality beyond the Community Edition that makes it especially suitable for efficient usage in business environments. iteraplan Enterprise Edition differs from iteraplan Community Edition in the following ways:

  • Databases: iteraplan Enterprise Edition can be used with either MySQL or Oracle databases, whereas the Community Edition ships only with Open Source database HSQLDB.
  • Users, roles, rights: functionality for creating users and roles and for managing access privileges is provided in the Enterprise Edition only.
  • LDAP connection: you can connect iteraplan Enterprise Edition to an LDAP server.
  • Data import interface: unlike the Community Edition, the Enterprise Edition offers a data interface via which you can load data you already have –application and process lists, for example. This speeds and simplifies the step of defining your EAM.
  • Migration scripts: the Enterprise Edition ships with migration scripts, enabling you to update more easily to new iteraplan releases by transferring your data to the new version of the software.
  • Support: Enterprise Edition is provided in combination with full maintenance, support and consulting services by iteratec.
